Land Acknowledgement
I acknowledge and give thanks to the land on which we live and work, and to the people who have cared for it. The land I am standing on today is the traditional territory of many nations including the Erie, Neutral, Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinabek, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Huron-Wendat peoples, and is home to many diverse Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island. I also acknowledge I reside and work on the Haldimand Tract, land promised by treaty to the Haudenosaunee, Six Nations of the Grand River. I believe we all have a responsibility to not only acknowledge the lands on which we are privileged to live and work, but to continue to grow our learning of Indigenous histories and realities to move towards Reconciliation.
Two-eyed seeing: “To see from one eye with the strengths of Indigenous ways of knowing, and to see from the other eye with the strengths of Western ways of knowing, and to use both of these eyes together” (Mi’kmaw Elder Albert Marshall).
“If what we aspire to is justice for all, then let it be justice for all of Creation.” (Kimmerer, R.W; Braiding the Sweetgrass, pg. 116).
