The Heart Behind the Logo

Braided Mind is a name that carries my values, my beliefs, my therapeutic approach, my neurodivergence, my identity, and my Indigenous roots as a Mi’kmaq woman from Potlotek First Nation. Every part of the logo reflects a piece of who I am and the relationships that shape me.

The moose represents my clan. Inside the moose is the turtle, honouring Turtle Island and all Indigenous peoples. The bear paws tell the beginning of my identity story — short, funny, and meaningful. For a long time, I thought the bear was my clan animal, only to learn recently that it wasn’t. I kept the bear paws because they represent the determination, curiosity, and humour woven into my journey of reconnecting with my ancestry. They remind me that identity is not a straight line and it is a path we walk with openness and humility.

The three strands of the braid represent mind, body, and spirit — the wholistic foundation of our work together. Healing is not just about one part of you, it is about supporting your whole self and honouring all the layers that make you who you are.

I also included a braid to reflect my neurodivergence and the beauty of diverse minds. Every person sees and experiences the world differently, and those differences are something to embrace, not hide. Braided Mind is about weaving those perspectives together and celebrating the ways we connect, the ways we diverge, and the strength that comes from bringing them into relationship.

A special thank you goes to my cousin, Trevor Owen, the Indigenous artist who created this logo with such care and intention. His artistry brought these teachings, stories, and symbols to life in a way that feels deeply personal and culturally grounded. I am grateful for the time, heart, and creativity he poured into this design, and for the way his work honours our shared roots and the spirit of Braided Mind.
